The name, and the reason

Darakht means tree.

Darakht is tree. Veda is knowledge. We picked the name because it describes the work rather than claiming a lineage we do not have — plants, and the accumulated knowledge of what they do.

Nineteen of them go into every bottle, drawn into an aqueous extract rather than blended in as powder. We name all nineteen on this site, and not just the four that sound best.

And we say what the formula does — it soothes, it refreshes, it relieves dryness. Nothing beyond that. An eye is not the place for a brand to be brave.

Triphala
Not one plant, but three

Triphala

Haritaki, Bahera and Dhatriphal, held together in the classical proportion. Between them they are the largest presence in the bottle, and Ayurveda has used the combination in eye preparations for a very long time.

Punarnava
Boerhaavia diffusa

Punarnava

The name means “renewing itself” — the plant dies back through the dry months and returns with the first rains. One of the handful carried at the highest strength in the formula.

Haridra
Curcuma longa

Haridra

Turmeric, which most people stop reading at. It is here as part of the aqueous extract rather than added as a powder — that is what lets a water-based drop carry it at all.

Rose
Rosa damascena

Rose

Rose, alongside both sandalwoods, white and red. This is the cooling part of the formula — and the reason the carton says “for cooling” rather than anything stronger than that.
